Lincoln’s Annual Thanksgiving Day Race: Huffin’ for the Stuffin’

by | Nov 18, 2024

Get ready to gobble up some fun at the 7th annual Huffin’ for the Stuffin’ Turkey Trot in Lincoln, California! This festive run is the perfect way to kick off your Thanksgiving celebrations and burn off some calories before the big feast. By the way, this event is featured in our Thanksgiving Guide 2024, so you know it’s a must-do!

A Trot With a Twist

The City of Lincoln Recreation Department has cooked up a delightful event that’s more than just your average turkey trot. With a name like “Huffin’ for the Stuffin’,” you know you’re in for a good time. This isn’t just a run; it’s a community celebration that brings families and fitness enthusiasts together for a morning of pre-Thanksgiving merriment.

Run Before You Feast

Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 28th, 2024. The event starts bright and early, with participants asking to arrive by 7:45 AM at Twelve Bridges Park. Don’t worry about oversleeping – the smell of excitement (and maybe some donuts) will wake you right up!

Something for Everyone

The Turkey Trot offers an array of running options:

  • For the little ones (ages 4-7), there’s the 0.17-mile Donut Dash at 8:00 AM. It’s short, sweet, and comes with a donut-shaped medal!
  • The 10K run starts at 8:15 AM for those looking to really work up an appetite.
  • The 5K run begins at 8:30 AM, perfect for those who want a good run without missing out on kitchen duties.

The 5K and 10K routes wind through the beautiful Twelve Bridges Park and trail. And for those wondering, yes, the 10K is just the 5K route done twice. It’s like going back for seconds before the main course!

Goodies Galore

What’s a turkey trot without some swag? Register by November 1st, 2024, and you’re guaranteed a unisex 50/50 cotton blend race shirt and a finisher award. Late birds might still snag some leftovers, but why take the chance? Early registration is as satisfying as nabbing the last piece of pumpkin pie. After crossing the finish line, all registered participants can enjoy refreshments. It’s like a pre-Thanksgiving snack to tide you over until the big meal.

More Than Just a Run

This Turkey Trot isn’t just about burning calories. The proceeds from the event support the City of Lincoln Recreation Scholarship Fund, which grants families in need access to recreation programs. So, while you’re huffing and puffing, remember that your participation is helping to stuff the community with goodwill.

Getting Your Race Kit

Don’t want to ruffle your feathers on race day? Pick up your race packet early at the Lincoln Community Center on November 26th or 27th between 11 AM and 6 PM. It’s located at 2010 First Street, Lincoln, CA 95648. This is also your last chance to register if you’ve been as indecisive as a turkey on the chopping block.

The Main Course: Race Day

On Thanksgiving morning, head to Twelve Bridges Park at 2540 Eastridge Drive, Lincoln, CA 95648. The park will be buzzing with energy, and you might even spot a few runners in turkey costumes. Who knows, you might be inspired to don some feathers yourself!

A Word to the Wise

Remember, this is a fun run. Sure, there are awards for the top three finishers, but the real prize is the joy of starting your Thanksgiving with a healthy dose of community spirit. And if you’re worried about your performance, just remember: no matter how slow you go, you’ll still finish before the turkey in the oven.

Location, Location, Location

Lincoln, California, is a charming city about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento. It’s close enough for city folks to make the trip but far enough to feel like a delightful Thanksgiving getaway.

The Fine Print

Registration is open until November 27th, 2024, but remember, early birds get the worm (or, in this case, the guaranteed shirt and medal). Fees range from $38-$40 for the 5K and 10K runs, while the Kids Donut Dash is a steal at $8.And just like that leftover turkey sandwich you’ll be eyeing the next day, all entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. They’re considered a donation to the recreation department, so consider it your Thanksgiving gift to the community.

So, whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to create a new Thanksgiving tradition, the Huffin’ for the Stuffin’ Turkey Trot is the perfect way to start your holiday. It’s a chance to get moving, have some laughs, and remind yourself why you’re thankful for your community (and your stretchy pants). See you at the starting line, and may the best turkey win!
